About SOS
Students for an Open Society was founded in 2007 in order to fill a perceived gap in campus discourse with regard to certain issues, especially Islamic fundamentalism and its influence in the Arab world and elsewhere. The stated mission of SOS is:
To expose and critique violent, oppressive political movements and social mores originating in the Islamic world that target women, dissidents and religious minorities, and to demonstrate how ignoring or downplaying such trends threatens the health and existence of current and future open societies.
